United States

As the only foundation of our size and presence that focuses its giving in the United States exclusively on Indigenous Peoples, The Christensen Fund’s grantmaking in the U.S. is a critical part of our vision. Our partners are working at the forefront of issues across the country such as fighting for child welfare rights, conducting research that restores the truth around Native history in the U.S., and empowering Indigenous women in leadership and philanthropy.

The strategic focus of our partners spans areas such as:

  • the environment/climate and conservation
  • economic development
  • rights enforcement/impact representation
  • media/narrative change
  • education

Some highlights from our U.S. program include partnering with Ridges to Riffles, a fund that was instrumental in persuading the federal government to remove at least four hydroelectric dams along the Klamath River which threatened the local salmon habitat, and supporting Native Americans in Philanthropy by helping design and providing the seed funding for the first direct Tribal conservation fund in history.
