Traditional Song of the Northern Kimberley

Nyalgodi, or Scotty Martin, lives in the remote Kimberley region of Australia where he was born. As a custodian of the law and culture of the Wandjina and the Gwion cave art, Scotty also plays a leading role in his community as an elder and singer, and leads cultural ceremonies to maintain the ancestral ways. This song, Gurlanji ngenda ngadmangu, is not a sacred song, but rather one of Scotty’s original compositions sung in the traditional language of his land.

This song was recorded by Musicologist Linda Barwick and is on the Undercover Music label.
