This song is sung by Ron Christman, a traditional Kumeyaay Bird Singer, has been listening to local tribal songs all of his life. Ron’s father sang variations of this Kumeyaay traditional song. The Kumeyaay, also known as Tipai-Ipai or Kamia are Native American people of the southwestern U.S. and northwest Mexico. Their singing traditions, as well as the traditions of several related tribes are documented in the film, Songs of the Colorado.
