Folk Concert at Gurming Museum

Folk Concert at Gurming Museum

The singers here, the ‘Masters from Khatlon’, are Sultonov Abdurauf (older man) , Sultonov Dubai ( young boy -nephew of Abdurauf) and Shoev Ziyoratsho. All are performing very old traditional music called “Falak”, mainly performed with the instrument called “doombra” or dutor (stringed instrument with only two strings) and percussion instrument called “tablak”. At the end when all musicians play together is a very old and disappearing tradition called “Yatabudor” and these singers are the best of the few remaining in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan who remember this tradition. One of the reasons we chose these singers is that they have students to whom they teach Falak and Yatabudor.
