Today marks a transition for the Christensen Fund as Catherine Sparks, our Program Officer for Melanesia, completes her tenure with the foundation.
Catherine has been a Christensen colleague and friend for more than nine years. Her departure has been long planned, in line with our policy of term limits for Program Officers. Catherine is transitioning from Christensen at a time of increased recognition of and support for culture-based economies as well as for the value and power of Indigenous sovereignty, culture and knowledge systems in Melanesia and beyond. Dedication to grantees and fidelity to Indigenous values were hallmarks of Catherine’s programming and was an inspiration to us all.
The Christensen Fund will take the opportunity of this transition to review and renew our Melanesia Program. While Program continuity is a top priority for our foundation, during this process there will not be a September 2017 open call for new pre-proposals. Existing grants and grants already under review will not be impacted during this period.
