The Christensen Fund is pleased to announce that Dr. Hassan G. Roba will take on the position of Program Officer for the African Rift Valley at The Christensen Fund effective July 1st. He will be building on the work of Dr. Wolde Tadesse, our founding Program Officer for the African Rift Valley program who ends his tenure as PO at the end of June after ten wonderful and productive years.
Hassan is a Kenyan, born to a pastoralist family in Moyale on the Northern Kenya-Southern Ethiopia border and grew up in the region. He comes to us from the National Museums of Kenya where he has been Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Indigenous Knowledge. His experience includes working with pastoralist communities on the integration of local and scientific approaches in management of complex bio-cultural landscapes, the implementation of several Biocultural Community Protocols, and in research on sustainable adaptation of grassland ecosystems to climate change. He has also been a Post Doctorate Fellow at the German Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture (DITSL) in the University of Kassel, Germany.
Hassan has a PhD in Development Studies from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, an MSc in Dryland Biodiversity from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, and a BSc in Biological Science from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Click here to see his bio.
