The Christensen Fund (www.christensenfund.org) is a fifty-year old foundation in Northern California with a long history of funding locally and internationally the arts, environmental conservation, and education. Since 2002, the foundation has focused its mission around bio-cultural diversity (the intersection of biological and cultural richness and complexity). Grant programs mostly support local initiatives and stewards in specific locations around the world, which have unique heritage and are likely to play an important role for sustaining diversity, (these currently include Ethiopia, Central Asia, Northern Australia, Melanesia, and the US Southwest and NW Mexico). Complementing grant making in the regions, Christensen seeks to build knowledge and practice worldwide around its mission focus through its Global Bio-cultural Initiative.

Position Summary
The Part-time Accountant (24 hours per week) will report to the Assistant Controller and will primarily be responsible for administering and recording Payroll, Benefit deductions and Accounts Payable. S/he will also be expected to assist in other G/L and financial reporting processes.
Position Responsibilities
This position is directly supervised by the Assistant Controller. Primary responsibilities are:
Payroll
· Serve as main contact for payroll-related assistance and information to staff and payroll services
· Process and track payroll, timesheets, taxes, benefit deductions, Vacation/Sick balance, etc. to a computerized system (ADP PayExpert)
· Reconcile Form 941
Accounts Payable
· Perform full cycle Accounts Payable (Quickbooks)
· Review payables for verification, coding, approval and overall accuracy
· Audit expense reports, credit card statements (Citibank and AMEX) thoroughly
· Assist in preparing checks for signature and mailing
Banking
· Initiate domestic and international wire/ACH transfers online (Wells Fargo CEO)
General Ledger
· Assist in preparing and entering G/L entries
· Assist in month-end closing (i.e. bank recon, Fixed Assets depreciation, expense allocation)
· Consolidate foreign branch monthly financials
General
· Assist in preparation of 1099’s and meeting other reporting requirements
· Assist in annual audit
· Maintain Asset Inventory/Schedule
· Perform additional bookkeeping duties as required
Skills and Qualifications Required/Desired
Minimum Qualifications:
· 5+ years accounting experience in Payroll and Accounts Payable
· Excellent knowledge in accounting procedures and 1099 preparation
· Highly proficient in using QuickBooks and Excel
· Attention to detail with accurate data entry skills
· Must be highly organized capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities
· Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a multi-cultural environment
· Able to work independently and a self-starter
· Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to maintain strict confidence
· Experience with ADP and wire transfers a must
· Inventory and/or international accounting experience highly desired
Physical Requirements
Position requires minimal lifting (up to 25 lbs.), mostly deskwork.
